NHS login - NHS Digital
Problem.
Allowing users to access their health information and services in a secure and easy way.
I was the designer on allowing users to create an NHS login account using their existing GP credentials. The problem with this solution is that there is more than one GP system and they all have their own terminology.
The other problem is that the credentials given to the user when they register for online service are meant to be used and thrown away. This would mean further burden on GP services.
Testing with users.
This was my first public sector role and I was amazed at how much focus and funding is made available for research and it wasn’t something that needed to be fought for.
We iterated many prototypes over a short period of time and my designs and prototypes led to the requirement for NHS to have it’s own identity service. The research that I sat on with the lead researcher was the feedback that convinced senior stakeholders to move forward with NHS login.
Simplifying the complex.
After the main service went live I became the lead user centred professional on the onboarding team. For this part of the project I covered service design, interaction design and conducting user research sessions.
My work focused on making NHS login as easy to pick up for developers wanting to test the service, this would often mean attending tech workshops and visualizing the service in a simple way.
